Sonar Fleet 1
Noroton YC

Winter Update:

This isn't ending soon enough for me. Not that we need reminders but...

I should have been in Florida with Rick Doerr. He participated in a couple of regattas, winning the Sail to Prevail Regatta in St Petersburg and coming in second in a 10 boat fleet in the St. Petersburg NOOD. Congratulations Rick.

Noroton's team racers recently competed in the Texas Shoot-out regatta hosted by the Texas Corinthian YC. Racing took place in Galveston Bay under fantastic conditions...80º and 15 kt breezes.

Crap, another one I missed.

With 5 clubs competing, Noroton finished in second place just one point behind the winning team from Marblehead. Finishing third was host club TCYC, fourth went to Wayzata YC and finishing fifth was a new team from Rochester, NY.

Upcoming schedule:

Things are starting to pick up at the club.

The Ideal 18's are rigged...

...and the new osprey home is waiting for a tenant.

But there is still more to do...

...before we dive head first into a very busy spring schedule with lots of opportunities to race. Check this out...

May 14-15 - The Oyster Bay Challenge team race, Seawanhaka YC
May 21-22 - The Tappan Zee Challenge, Nyack, NY
May 29-30 - The Memorial Day Series, Noroton YC
June 4-5 - The Long Island Sound Championships, Manhasset Bay YC

NOR's for both the TZC and the LIS's, and online registration are available on the Sonar class website: http://www.sonar.org/

What else:

If you are thinking about replacing sails or making room in the garage/basement by finally doing something with that main that hasn't seen the light of day in two seasons, consider donating your sails to the Waterfront Center in Oyster Bay NY. Please contact Peter Brauné at:

Or...

I am the lucky recipient of Sonar #66.  As you might imagine, she is
solid, but it remains to be seen how competitive it might be.  It has
been and will continue to be wet sailed out of Old Greenwich Yacht
Club.  It might see some Vespers action as well as some participation in
internal Club regattas.

She needs a modern set of sails - a main and jib. I am in the market for
a set that is two or three seasons old.  Perhaps a member of the Noroton
fleet would be interested in filling that space in the basement with a
case of wine or some cash.

Thanks for spreading the word.

Fleet 1 Meeting:

Our first fleet meeting will take place at the club on Saturday, May 7, 6p-8p. If you think this update was good, you'll LOVE what I have to share then.
