SONAR FLEET 1 NEWSLETTER

We're back for another exciting season of Sonar racing.

Our fleet continues to grow, we now have 31 Sonars in our dry sail area.

Please welcome Bahar Gidwani, formally of Manhasset Yacht Club, to Noroton and Fleet 1. You'll see Bahar out racing in 781 this summer.

FLEET RACING:

Our season began last weekend with the Memorial Day series, Sunday May 24 and Monday May 25.

12 boats came out racing on Sunday. Our PRO on Sunday, Bill Crane ran three races, a D2, D1 and W1.

Team 506 with Scott MacLeod, TK, Matt Cohen and KC Hart picked up where they left off last year by winning the first and third races. In fact, 506 won every race over the series... except one.

The second race of the day on Sunday was won by Bruce Kirby and Team 633, Howard Seymour, Britt Hall and  Christie Hart.... sorry we just can't help ourselves... making the one common denominator in order to win, you've got to have Hart.

On Monday, Jim Crane was PRO and sent 11 boats on two races, a D2 and a D1. The breeze was light, out of the east for both races, at least at the start.

By the end of the second race, the wind died, then filled in from the south. Boats that went right, towards the middle of the sound, into the current, in light air, caught that southerly first. They raised their chutes, past everyone, finished the race, got to shore and went out and bought a lottery ticket.

Results of the five races over two days:

1st - 506 with 7 points
2nd - 605 with 20.4* points - Bob Monro, Fran Monro, Ian Monro, Janet Grapengeter and Michael Rudnick
3rd (winning a tie breaker over 619) - 701 Fast Forward with 24 points. Peter Galloway, Paul Steinborn Sr., Cooper Pellaton, Dan Anderson (Sunday), Liz Steinborn (Monday)

Full results here: http://www.fleet1.org/

*A note about scoring: 605 and 781 each took a 20% penalty in race 1 on Sunday. With 12 boats racing, that added 2.4 points to their scores. Fleet1.org, the site we use to keep track of our series and season scores, can not handle fractions. Therefore, results posted for the season on Fleet1.org will be rounded to the nearest whole number. That rounded number will be used for the final series and season scores.

1st Place Team 506: KC, Scott, TK and Matt (with Ian Monro looking on)
2nd Place Team 605: Janet, Michael, Ian, Fran and Bob
