MEMORIAL DAY WEKEND:

Sunday, May 26

Our first day of fleet racing was canceled due to high winds... higher than anyone normally wants to deal with, let alone for the first race of the season.

Gusts in the 30+ range (even topping 40 mph at Norwalk light) and average speeds in the mid to high 20s, RC PRO Michael Rudnick rightfully postponed racing until Monday.

Monday, May 27

Worth the wait. Sunny, wind 10-15... it doesn't get much better. 12 boats made it out to the course including a guest from the Sonar Class' newest fleet, #35 from Nova Scotia, Canada.

PRO Bill Crane ran four races including an "M" and an "F" course.

"Did the RC put the "W" in upside down?"

"I don't think so... Do we have the SI's?"

"I didn't bring them. You?" "Nope" "Nope" "Not me."

"Well, 506 or Lee better have a copy."

After racing was done, our winner for the day, and for the Memorial Day series, with 13 points was Team 506 with Scott Macleod, TK, Kerry Klingler and new member Andrew Lester.

Second went to Team 500 with 16 points. Third was team 619 with 18 points.

CREW TRAINING SEMINAR:

This coming Saturday, June 1, we are holding our 2nd annual crew training seminar. The forecast is for a perfect day...

The seminar begins at 9am. We currently have 26 signed up. We have room for a couple more people but not many so if you are interested, go to the Member's Only area of the club website to sign up or send me an email: 2bruce@optonline.net.

The following Sonar owners have volunteered to take out participants for our on-the-water training session:

McArthur

G. Morrison

To the owners who are helping out... please bring one other experienced person with you who can help with training and boat handling.

2013 LONG ISLAND SOUND CHAMPIONSHIPS

Our annual regatta has been moved to June 15-16 this year due to the World Championships in September.

We have brought back the same team that ran last year's very successful regatta, including Briggs Tobin as PRO; Peter Wilson as course director and jury member; Dave Sinclair as safety chair and jury member; Palmer Sparkman as official scorer; Jan Raymond for registration and t-shirt design; and of course, Kitty Brown for refreshments, Saturday dinner, snacks, etc.

Participation by Fleet 1 members is critical to convince outside teams to travel here. The regatta is less than 3 weeks away. PLEASE SIGN UP NOW!

The NOR and online registration is available at: http://www.sonar.org/. The NOR is also available from the Noroton website: http://norotonyc.org/

BARBECUES:

Our first fleet barbecue is Sunday June 9. Please plan on staying at the club after racing to enjoy a burger (and whatever else our barbecue volunteer John Schultz has in store for us).

DUES:

Fleet 1 dues is $50. Please send a check, made out to Sonar Fleet 1 (include your name, boat number and partner's names.) to:
