FLEET RACING:

Last weekend was our Labor Day series.

Day 1: Saw 14 boats on the line including a team from Pequot YC and one from California. All were greeted with a nice breeze from the SE at 8 kts. PRO Peter Galloway and the RC ran 4 races, 2x W2 and 2x W1.

At the end of the day's racing, we had Bob Monro in first with 16 points, followed by a tie for second between Scott Harrison and Lee Morrison with 17 points each.

Not all was coming up roses though:

Carolyn Wilson took this shot of Art Collins looking for wind between races...NOT!

Remember this?

Who can guess the common denominator?

Day 2:  Many called this the best day of the year. SE winds at 14-16. PRO Jim Bishop ran 3 W2's, with 12 boats racing.

After the drop-out, our winner of the Labor Day series was Scott Harrison, with Warren Costikyan, Chris Shapiro and John Szewczuk.

Team 772: Warren, Chris, Scott and John
Second place, just one point behind was Lee Morrison. Third went to Bob Monro.

LONG ISLAND SOUND CHAMPIONSHIPS:

We are hosting the LIS Championships on September 29-30. Last year's regatta had 23 competitors. This year our goal is 30! But it can only happen if you sail. We need a big turn-out from fleet 1 and we need you to register early. The sooner the better. The more boats that register, the more travel boats will decide to make the trip.

Keep in mind, if you register and for whatever reason can't make it, you will not be charged.

We had 20 boats out fleet racing in July. I don't see any reason why we can't get 20 to register for the regatta. If we can get 20 boats from Fleet 1, then I believe we'll get another 15 to travel here. How cool would that be? 35 boats racing in the final regatta of the season?

Online registration is now open in the Member's Only area of http://www.sonar.org/

We still need a few more people to help with RC for the regatta. Please consider helping one or both days.  Briggs Tobin is the PRO.  Lunch will be provided and people that serve both days will receive an invitation to the dinner on Saturday night.

LAST FLEET RACE:

Speaking of ending the season, there will be two fleet racing Sunday's after the regatta. Our last fleet race is on October 14.

To encourage participation, we are going to invite all skippers who travel to the LIS Champs to leave their boats with us and race those final two weekends.

We hope to see you out there as well.

TEAM RACING:

The Kirby Cup is being held on Saturday and Sunday, September 15-16. We have 6 teams participating: Noroton, Eastern YC, Boston YC, NYYC, Seawanhaka and Vineyard Haven.

As a reminder, fleet racing is canceled on Sunday 9/16.

We still need volunteers to help launch boats and for housing. If you would like to help, please contact Lee Morrison.
