SONAR FLEET 1 NEWSLETTER

FLEET RACING:

Sunday July 11:

It turns out we have seven reasonably entellegent... intellegent... smart skippers in our fleet. After a game delay on shore, seven boats went out to race. PRO Britt Bishoff and team managed to get three races off.

First race was a D1 with the wind out of the SW at 5-10 mph. Starting was important.
Team 772 with Scott Harrison, Kelsey Harrison, Henry Millette and Jamie Burrell must have has a great start as they took the gun. 772 was followed by Team 619 with Lee Morrison, Mark Sullivan, Don Vasta and KC Hart. Third went to Team Jager with John Bainton, Gregg Delany and PD Duncan.

Then the wind shifted to the West, as forecast all morning, and the breeze picked up to 8-12 for the next two races.

Here's a look at the wind from Sheffield Island Light:

The second race was also a D1 with a pin end favor. With a pushing tide, some were called OCS.
In this race, Team 619 took the gun followed by Team 620 with Tom Ross, Kevin Marks, Quentin Leo and Fotis Boliakis in second and Team 690 in third.

The final race of the day was a W1, with the same pin favor and once again several where over early.
In this race, Team Jager took the gun with Team 619 in second and Team 620 in third.

It was great seeing Team 620 do so well. They've had great speed all year. Nice to see everything come together for them.

For the day...

1st - Team 619 with 5 points
2nd - Team Jager with 7 points
3rd - Team 620 with 11 points

All where thankful there was wind and enjoyed being on the water.

POLL:

In what is becoming a fairly regular occurrence recently, we had another hour postponement on shore. So we thought it might be interesting to take an informal poll to see how the fleet feels about the possibility of changing our start time next year.

Tell us what you think...

YRALIS

The YRALIS is holding it's annual championship regatta on August 6-7. With 6 boats, the Sonars can get their own start. This would be a nice way to show the class is lively.

With support, this could become our annual Long Island Sound Championship.

Racing is off Greenwich. Please let Bruce McArthur know if this is something you'd be willing to do.
