SONAR FLEET 1 NEWSLETTER

FLEET RACING:

Sunday July 24:

What looked like a questionable breeze turned into a nice day for the 11 boats that made it out to the race course. PRO Briggs Tobin and the RC ran three W2's, all in 5-8 knots starting from the south and moving to the SE.

Race 1: The first race was pin favored. Team 690 "Jager" won that and the race with John Bainton, Gregg Delany and Clifton Hill aboard. Second went to Team 619 with Lee Morrison, Kirsten Morrison, Mark Sullivan and K.C. Hart. Third was Team 733 with Kevin Sheehan, Palmer Sparkman and James Howe.

Race 2: Then the wind started to move left and it paid to be there..  In the 2nd race,  the course geometry was skewed by the second windward leg,  making  the end of the race a parade and difficult to advance. Team 772 with Scott Harrison, Adam Westermann, Ed Hogan and Connor Chapin finished first, followed by Team Jager in second and Team 500 with Commodore Bill Jayson, Randy Tankoos, Will Graves and Geoff Durno in third.

Race 3: With the wind settled in a SE position, the 3rd race was square with more pressure left once again.  Team 772 went left, and once again made it around the course the fastest while Team 605 with Bob Monro, Francesca Monro, Ian Monro and Janet Grapengeter came in second and Team 619 in third (about 1' in front of Jager).

Final results for the day:

1st - Team 772 with 6 points
2nd - Team Jager with 7 points
3rd - Team 619 with 10 points

Team 772: New dad Adam Westermann (looking a little tired), Scott Harrison, Connor Chapin and Ed Hogan

COOKOUT:

Yesterday was our second fleet cookout. A HUGE thank you to Karen Harrison who made it happen. We had a nice turn out on a beautiful evening...

YRALIS

Time is running out. If there is any interest in racing in this regatta, let Bruce McArthur know.

The YRALIS is holding it's annual championship regatta on August 6-7. With 6 boats, the Sonars can get their own start. This would be a nice way to show the class is lively.

With support, this could become our annual Long Island Sound Championship.

Racing is off Greenwich.
